The Burndown Chart

The Burndown Chart is a graphical representation of completed and outstanding Stories over time. It can be a useful predictor of when all work in a given Epic will be completed.

Burndown Charts in Clubhouse are located in the "Reports" tab that can be accessed by clicking into the Epic. Note that your Burndown Chart will only be available if Stories have been added to the Epic you are viewing and your Epic has been moved to In Progress.

Reading the Burndown Chart

The Burndown Chart can be measured in either Stories or Estimated Points. This setting can be defined within the Estimate Scale of your Clubhouse Settings by navigating to Settings > Estimate Scale

The Clubhouse Estimate Scale

The x-axis of the Burndown Chart represents time, while the y-axis measures number of Stories or Points in the Epic. The x-axis will start at the date when the Epic was moved into the In Progress state.

The number of outstanding Stories or Points is visualized with a blue line, while the orange line represents the projected burn of work within an Epic. If your Epic does not have a Due Date, the date where the orange line ends indicates the predicted date when your Epic will be completed based on your current burn rate.

Hovering over any point on the Burndown Chart will  show you the current and projected (or ideal) progress at that point in time.

Due Dates & The Burndown Chart

Epic Due Dates are optional; however if you specify a due date, the Burndown Chart can help you to visualize if a projected completion date will occur before of after your desired date. In this context, the number of remaining Stories or Points are again represented by a blue line, while the ideal number of Stories or Points required to make your due date are visualized in green.
