Milestones

Milestones and the Velocity Bar Chart

The Velocity Bar Chart is a visual representation of Stories or Story Points completed across time and highlights the average amount of Stories or Story Points over that time period.

Using Velocity Charts can help agile teams understand patterns and set targets for future work.

Each individual Milestone page has a Velocity Bar Chart that visualizes Stories or Story Points completed across weeks within that Milestone. It also calculates the average number of Stories or Story Points completed across all weeks within the Milestone.

The Milestone Velocity Chart is located on the Reports tab of an individual Milestone.  The Velocity Bar Chart can be found underneath the Milestone's Burndown Chart

Using the Velocity Chart with Story Count

For organizations using Story Count for their reporting, each bar of the Velocity Chart is color coded to represent the number of Feature Stories (green), Bug Stories (red), and Chore Stories (blue) completed within a given week. Hovering your mouse over a single bar will produce a pop up with a quantitative breakdown of the Story types, as well as the total number of Stories completed within the week.

A horizontal bar will cut across the chart and highlight your current average velocity in Story count.

Using the Velocity Chart with Story Points

For organizations using Story Points for their reporting, each bar of the Velocity Chart is color coded to represent the types of Stories completed and the height represents the amount of completed points associated with them. Hovering your mouse over a single bar will produce a pop up with a quantitative breakdown of the Story types, as well as the total number of Story Points completed within the week.

A horizontal bar will cut across the chart and highlight your current average velocity in Story Points.
